Sgt Rogers was born November 25, 1923 in Kentucky and was killed in action on January 19, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge.
Sgt Rogers (pictured right) is the son of Virgil Rogers, a builder of cotton gins and the son of Minnie Rogers. Sgt Rogers had 2 brothers Norman [ b.1903 died 1978, served in the China-Burma War] and Leo F [b.2-16-1922 died 9-23-2001, served in WW2 as an AirCorps B-24 Bomber Pilot] and 2 sisters Zola Rogers Mullings [b.1-10-1905 in KY died Oct 1981] and Leora Rogers Farmer [b.7-7-1909 in KY died July 1991] Sgt Rogers and his family moved to Bixby, Oklahoma in 1930.
Sgt Rogers enlisted in the Army on May 1, 1942
at Tulsa, Oklahoma. His enlistment records states
was a high school graduate and was single.
Sgt Rogers was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Croix de Guerre Unit Citation [French].
Sgt Rogers is interred at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Gibson, Oklahoma at Section 3 Site 2010E.
