Cpl Jones was born in 1919 in North Carolina and was killed in action on June 7, 1944 during the Airborne invasion of Normandy.
Cpl Jones (pictured right) is the son of Everett Jones [b.1887 in NC] a farmer and the son of Chloe Jones [b.10-17-1888 and died April, 1982].
The 1930 US Census for Averasboro, Harnett County, North Carolina shows Wilber residing with his parents and 5 sisters, Naomi [b.1913] Mallie [b.1915] Elsie M [b.1923] Burnice [b.1924] Dallie L [b.1926] and 3 brothers, Everett Thenton Jones [b.5-13-1916 and died 2-8-1988] Thomas [b.1921] and Charles [b.1929].
Cpl Jones enlisted in the Army on Feb 6, 1942 at Fort Bragg, NC. His enlistment record states Wilber had completed 3 years of high school.
Cpl Jones was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Croix de Guerre Unit Citation [French].
It is not known where Cpl Jones in interred.
