Sgt Ahlgrim is the son of Frederick J Alhgrim [b. 1890 in Missouri died unknown] a brick-mason and the son of Mary Alhgrim [b 1891 in Kansas and died sometime between 1920-1930.
The 1930 US census for Gary, Lake County, Indiana shows Robert residing at 3611 9th Ave, Gary with his father, stepmother [Evenlyn C, Ahlgrim] and brother William [b Oct 1920 in Colorado].
Sgt Ahlgrim enlisted in the Army on April 2nd, 1942 at
Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. His enlistment record states that Robert had completed 2 years of high school graduate and was single.
Sgt Ahlgrim was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, and the Croix de Guerre Unit Citation [French].
Sgt Ahlgrim is interred at the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur Mer, France at Plot D, Row 23, Grave 11 (pictured above right).
